Creating the life that you want

Picture this; your life is a video game and you have the controller, and whatever you want to happen in your life you can create, just by pressing the right buttons in the right order on your controller. How cool would that be! I’m sure I’m not the only one who would upgrade their lives and delete a few unnecessary pixels in their video game.

Now hold onto your socks because I am about to knock them off, I think I have found a way to make that exact concept a reality! I know it sounds a little bit too good to be true but with a little bit more effort and some work I would like to believe that it can be a reality.

I have been reading a book called The Secret by Rhonda Byrne …now hold on; don’t roll your eyes at me.  I know so many people have read it and people are divided, some swear by it and others call it a bunch of hooey. I am leaning toward the former rather than the latter.  Now I’m not going to break the whole book down for you because then we would need about 4 hours and a lot of coffee but let me tell you about the process I have adopted into my daily routine.

What is Visualization and how do I do it?

Now don’t take my word as gospel but this is basically how I have grasped the concept and the way that I have been carrying it out. So visualization is picturing an event or a circumstance that you wish to have or obtain in your life. I close my eyes and bring that image into my mind and I place myself in the middle of that image and press play, almost like I am creating my own movie. So let’s say I would really love to own a golden retriever puppy. I will close my eyes and picture myself playing with this puppy and picking up its poop and buying puppy food for it. But to see it in your mind isn’t enough, you need to make the movie feel as real as possible. I will try to imagine what its little puppy breathe smells like, what its bark sounds like and the feeling of its fluffy fur; but most importantly the joy and excitement that I feel when I play with it. By connecting that image to your present day emotion you focus your mind on what you want in your future and you therefore re-center your effort on achieving those things. Those strong emotions and thoughts connected to that event is like the invisible red infrared beam that communicates the buttons you press to the events on the video game. By pressing the right thoughts in your mind the universe sends out that infrared beam and therefore those visualizations will ultimately be manifested onto the screen that is our lives around us.

So what do I use to help this process along?

  1. Get yourself a picture book:

I have a little book that I cut out and paste images of the things that I want in my future and of all the things that make me happy and make me feel relaxed. For example, the one thing that I would love to have in my life is a beautiful white smile. So I find pictures that I resonate the feeling of having a beautiful pearly white grin with, such as a picture of a girl laughing with all her heart. I cut that little picture out and paste it in my book. Those images that I collect prompt my visualization in my head and help to remind me what it is that I want in my life.

  1. Write your life into existence:

In a second little pocket book I write down what it is I am exactly visualizing, but I am very careful as to the way that I write it. If I write the phrase “I cannot wait to one day have beautiful white teeth” then guess what? I will forever be waiting for that one day. Instead I write this down in my little book, “I am so grateful for my straight white teeth”. In order for you to be grateful for something it means you must already know what it feels like to have it, therefore instead of placing what I want perpetually in the future I am bringing it into my present day.

Now my job is not to worry about how I will receive that puppy or worry about the logistics surrounding how it will manifest itself. My job is to believe that it is already mine and to create space in my life in preparation for it. There is no space in my life for my little golden retriever if I am living on the 37th floor of a high rise building, so I need to make space in my life for that puppy by ensuring that I have a nice garden for it to frolic in, so that I am perfectly ready and able to receive the gift that the universe is bringing me.

When I carve out time each day to just shut off everything and focus my thoughts and my energy on the things that I want for my life, it has a way of de-cluttering my mind and sorting out the things that my heart should be focused on from the things that are just trying to distract and manipulate it. If you are feeling like you are struggling to take hold of the future that you wish to have then I would highly recommend reading the book that everyone has an opinion about and give it a try for yourself and formulate your own opinion on it. Who knows? Maybe you find it to be a major success and you completely turn your life around, I for one believe that if you are willing to put in the effort, then anything is possible.
