“For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. “

Hebrews 4:12

The Gospel is not a doctrine or a lifestyle, but rather a person. To be a witness of Jesus and spread the gospel is very easy if you love Him and love others. I often felt during my early years in my faith that because I wasn’t able to cite the book of Exodus off the top of my head, I wasn’t able to approach others openly about my testimony. However 1 Corinthians 8 tells us ” We know that “We all possess knowledge.” But knowledge puffs up while love builds up.  Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know.  But whoever loves God is known by God. ”

Everyone can be a witness to Jesus. Knowledge is not a prerequisite, all that is necessary to be a witness to Him is to know Him. However the bible urges us to grow in our maturity and in our faith as believers through the word of God.

“Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. “

Hebrews 5&6

I pretty much run everything in my life past God, from my house all the way down to my outfit selection. I lean on Him to show me how to walk out my day so that I can squeeze out every last drop of goodness out of His will for me. However it never occurred to me to seek Him when it came to reading His word. That makes no sense right ? He wrote it, so why had I assumed He wasn’t able to help me with it.

5 Ways To Boost Your Bible

  • Ask God for His Help

Before I open my bible to begin reading I ask God to show me what He wants me to see. Ask God to open your heart and your mind to learn the lessons He needs you to learn and to grow in the wisdom and knowledge of His heart.

  • Make your bible beautiful

When I open my Grandma’s bible, my eyes begin getting tired and heavy within the first few minutes. If you are more creative and interactive like myself there are some gorgeous fun and interactive journal bibles available that make reading so much more stimulating and fun. I find it so satisfying that my bible is colorful, written in and personalized. I practically live in my local CUM Books.

  • Set aside time for your reading

It’s no secret that our lives are extremely busy, I wish I could sit and mediate on the word for hours, but my day job puts a dampener on those plans. Have a look at your life and set aside a reasonable amount of time in your day to sit and read scripture.

  • Read and learn with others

We are all members of the body of Christ, where we are called to lift each other up and grow one another. It can be inspiring and motivating to learn from other Christians and grow together. The Bible App has some lovely reading plans that you are able to share with others and learn from together.

  • Learn about scripture outside of scripture

Whenever I am really struggling with finding life from my bible I turn to other books to help refresh my mind and get me excited about God’s word. There is nothing wrong with taking a break and reading other books that have scripture integrated into their message. Such as Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge and The Power of a Praying Woman by Stormie Omartian. Just remember that there is no substitute for your bible, only helpers.
